Summer Scribble #1 - AM I A GIRL YET?!

Description

No Zarhe, everyone still thinks that you’re a boy.

...

Seriously tho, it seems to be the the biggest mystery in the whole comic for some reason. I know it might be hard to identify the genders in my comic since the girls don’t have big eyelashes or long hair or big hips, but let’s be real here, wolves doesn’t have any of that. Or yes, they do, but so does both males and females (and not as exaggerated as on the image above of course). Wolves have hair on the whole body, not specifically long on the head, they don’t have eyelashes that big (solely females) and they definitely don’t have curves. I know some people does some of these things to use a certain style, but I don’t in this case. My comic may not be 100% realistic, but I try to stick to realism as much as possible when it comes to the design and behavior of my characters (Except for Zewiac, Miesenca and Xine, but there’s a reason for that. c’: ). Again, I don’t care if other people does this or not, it can look awesome and unique! But I don’t think it should be necessary all the time to define someone’s gender. Therefore, I’d like you all to either think of the character as gender-neautral until you see it confirmed or just simply ask me. A character’s behavior or appearance shouldn’t define his/hers/their gender. (Unless it's like with lions where the males have a mane and defends the pride and the females don't have a mane and hunts. But with wolves it's a little more equal and less differences.) A girl can be loud, rough and not curvy and a boy can be timid, emotional and not muscular. Then there’s those who doesn’t identify as neither a boy or a girl and that should be okay too. I don’t think any gender should have rules like this, it shouldn’t matter!

It may seem like I’m blowing up a small issue, but hear me out. In real life, the only way to tell the gender of a wolf is to look at it’s genitals. I refuse to make my females more ”feminine”, since I feel like it’s discriminating in a sense and kind of ridiculous in this situation. Although, as I’ve mentioned, I have no problem what so ever with people drawing eyelashes and long hair on their females, some of my favorite artists does that! But it’s just the way I draw my characters in my comic and I want that to be accepted and respected.

I’ve not made this with the intention of being rude, it’s for making a point with a grain of salt. As I said, it may actually be the most asked question and the biggest mystery of the whole comic, no joke. So, I felt like I needed to address it somehow.

ps. If you’ve asked me about Zarhe’s gender, don’t worry I don’t think you’re stupid. ^^ I’m just tired of getting the same question asked to me over and over again... :’)

And just to be clear since the thought may occur, no, this image has nothing to do with transexuals. This is an image of a female dressing up in stereotypical female clothes to prove the point that girls, seemingly, has to look feminine to be girls. Plus, the matter of transexuals not being taken seriously is a lot bigger than a female comic-character being mistaken for a male. So don’t mix it into this, I support equality and acceptance and I hope all of you do as well.

And... I’d lie if I said I disliked drawing this picture. As long as they aren’t made overly sexual, I have no problem with anthros! :) I’m no furry, but let’s be honest. :’3 Plus seeing Zarhe in a dress is kinda neat. Imagine her being in the comic like this and everything else is just normal.

''You can tell wolf's gender only by looking at the genitalia''? Hmm, is it the same for dogs as well?
